AMARILLO DIOCESE’S PRISON and JAIL MINISTRY

If you are a family member or friend of an inmate in any of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Units located within the Diocese of Amarillo (Panhandle of Texas) the list below provides you with information about Catholic services offered in each of the units.
The Amarillo Diocese’s Criminal Justice/ Prison and Jail Ministry is comprised of Catholic Priests, Deacons, and lay persons, who have answered a calling from God to assist our imprisoned brothers and sisters understand and accept the love of Christ Jesus. We attempt to serve the spiritual and religious needs of Catholic inmates as well as other inmates seeking to know about the Catholic faith and way of life. Our Mission is to recognize and promote their fundamental dignity and rights of the imprisoned, their families, and those released back into society; as Jesus himself told His disciples “Whatsoever you do to the least of these, you do also to me.”
Within the Diocese of Amarillo are seven Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional facilities and 27 county jails. While currently our focus is primarily upon those inside these Correctional Units, the Diocese of Amarillo hopes to expand our services above and beyond the units themselves by the united efforts of Catholic volunteers throughout the diocese.
